Two UK-built, barber-focused platforms with different ways of charging. Here is what matters before you choose.

This comparison uses Nearcut's current public pricing page, service terms and Customer Booking Terms, all checked on 4 August 2026 and linked below. Where Nearcut is stronger, we say so.

The short version

Nearcut now offers two ways to pay:

  • Free for You: the barbershop pays £0/month and customers pay a booking charge when they book online.
  • Subscription: the barbershop pays a quote-based monthly price, customers do not pay a booking charge and optional Business Boosters are available.

Nearcut says Subscription prices exclude VAT. Its public page does not publish a standard Subscription total or the amount of the customer booking charge.

Setora is £39/month per location, regardless of team size. Customers do not pay Setora a booking fee. SMS credits and card processing are separate if used.

For a solo barber, Nearcut's £0/month option may be attractive if customers paying the booking charge is acceptable. For a growing team that wants one known platform price, direct bookings and self-service data export, Setora is likely to be easier to budget for.

What Nearcut charges now

Nearcut's current pricing is not the old public per-barber rate that appeared in earlier versions of this article. The current page presents two plan options.

Plan What the barbershop pays What the customer pays Other points
Nearcut Free for You £0/month A booking charge on online bookings Nearcut sets and retains the charge
Nearcut Subscription Contact Nearcut for a quote, excluding VAT No Nearcut booking charge Optional Business Boosters are available
Setora £39/month per location No Setora booking fee SMS credits and card processing are separate if used

Nearcut says the Subscription price is based on the barbershop's needs. That means a fair comparison needs a current quote for your own shop rather than an estimated per-barber calculation.

Nearcut also lists optional Business Boosters for features such as loyalty, Cancellation Watch, email marketing, feedback, product sales, gift vouchers, packages, memberships and in-store payments. The current public page does not publish a price for each Booster, so include the ones you would actually use when requesting a quote.

Nearcut offers a one-month free trial for the Subscription plan. Setora offers a 14-day free trial with no card required.

How the customer booking charge works

The booking charge needs a careful qualification because it does not apply to every Nearcut plan.

On Free for You, Nearcut charges customers for bookings made through the platform. Manual bookings do not attract the charge unless they require an online deposit or pre-payment. Nearcut's terms say the charge is separate from the service price, is set and retained by Nearcut and is shown before the customer confirms.

Nearcut's pricing page says the charge is refunded when a customer cancels. Its Customer Booking Terms add an important detail: after the barbershop's cancellation cut-off, or within the stated time before the appointment, the charge may be non-refundable. The exact charge is not published on the pricing page and can change.

On Subscription, Nearcut says there is no customer booking charge. The barbershop pays the quoted monthly Subscription instead.

Setora does not add a customer booking fee on either trial or paid accounts. Card processing remains separate when online payments are used.

What Nearcut does well

Nearcut is a genuine UK barbershop specialist. Its current site says it is trusted by more than 6,500 barbers, and its public reviews regularly praise the support team. Both sources were checked on 4 August 2026. If you value an established provider with a substantial public track record, that matters.

Nearcut also has an established consumer app. For barbershops whose customers already use it, that familiarity can make staying put the sensible choice. Setora does not have a consumer marketplace app.

Cancellation Watch is another useful Nearcut feature. It helps fill cancelled spaces from a waiting list. Setora has its own waitlist, but Nearcut deserves credit for making this a visible part of its barbershop offer.

Nearcut's current Subscription can also add Business Boosters such as memberships, gift vouchers, product sales and in-store payments. If those are central to your shop, compare the exact Nearcut quote with the Setora features you would use rather than choosing on the headline monthly figure alone.

Where Setora is likely a better fit

You want one known price as the team grows. Setora remains £39/month for the location. Nearcut's Subscription is quote-based, so you need a current quote to know how your own setup will be priced.

You do not want customers charged to book. Setora adds no customer booking fee. With Nearcut, that also means choosing Subscription rather than Free for You.

You want direct browser bookings. Setora customers use your Booking Page directly. There is no consumer marketplace app between the customer and the shop.

You want to export data yourself. Setora includes self-service customer data export. Nearcut's terms say the barbershop owns its Client Data, but its public pages do not document a self-service export route.

You want a simple decision before switching. Start the Setora trial, add your real services and staff, test the Booking Page and only change public links if it works for your shop.

Data and moving from Nearcut

Nearcut's service terms state that the barbershop owns its Client Data. That is useful, but ownership and export method are different questions. The public terms do not promise a particular self-service export or list every field and format Nearcut will provide.

Before giving notice, ask Nearcut for:

  • the client records it can provide;
  • services and staff data, if available;
  • future bookings and history, if available;
  • the file formats and delivery date.

Keep Nearcut live while you review the files. Setora can import supported records that are actually included, but we will not promise that every note, booking or setting will be present. Build your services and staff, test your Booking Page and change the public link only when you are satisfied.

For the full sequence, use the Nearcut switching guide. You can also start with the data portability request template if you want a clear written request.

Where the platforms differ

Setora is NHBF Trade Assured, won Digital StartUp of the Year for the East of England, and has customer reviews on Trustpilot. It also has software listings on G2 and Capterra. Nearcut says it is trusted by more than 6,500 barbers and has a longer public track record. Compare that alongside the price, access to your data and the day-to-day features your shop will actually use.

Setora does not have a consumer marketplace app. It will not put your shop in front of people browsing a Nearcut-style app.

Setora does not currently offer payment terminal integration. Nearcut lists in-store payments among its Subscription Business Boosters.

Setora also does not offer a custom branded consumer app. Nearcut lists a custom app option on its public site.

The bottom line

Nearcut is an established, barber-focused platform with a strong support reputation, a consumer app and a choice between a customer-funded plan and a quoted Subscription.

Setora is likely a better fit if you want one flat per-location price, no customer booking fee, direct browser bookings and self-service customer data export.

If you are solo and avoiding a monthly bill matters most, Nearcut's Free for You plan may still suit you. If you need Nearcut's app audience, custom app or in-store payment option, staying with Nearcut may also be the right call.

The useful next step depends on where you are:

Common questions

I'm a solo barber. Which one's cheaper?
Nearcut's Free for You plan has no monthly bill, but customers pay a booking charge when they book online. Nearcut's Subscription price is quote-based. Setora is £39/month per location with no customer booking fee. For a solo barber, the better fit depends on whether avoiding a monthly bill or avoiding customer charges matters more.
I have three barbers and might hire a fourth. Which scales better?
Setora stays at £39/month for the location as the team grows. Nearcut now prices its Subscription to each barbershop's needs, so ask Nearcut for a current quote and compare the full total, including VAT and any Business Boosters you need.
Can I actually leave if I want to?
Nearcut's service terms require one month's written notice. Its terms say the barbershop owns its Client Data, but its public pages do not document a self-service export. Setora is month-to-month and lets you export customer data yourself. Ask Nearcut what files it can provide before giving notice.
Do my clients have to download an app?
No. Both platforms support browser-based booking. Nearcut also has an established consumer app, while Setora keeps the booking journey browser-first through your Booking Page.
What independent track record does each platform have?
Setora is NHBF Trade Assured, won Digital StartUp of the Year for the East of England at the UK StartUp Awards 2026 and has customer reviews on Trustpilot. Nearcut's current site says it is trusted by more than 6,500 barbers and its public reviews regularly praise the support team. Track record is one factor. Price, access to your data and the features your shop uses each day matter too.
Does every Nearcut customer pay a booking charge?
No. The customer booking charge applies to Nearcut's Free for You plan. Nearcut says customers do not pay that charge on its quote-based Subscription plan.
